6.P. - Page 2 of 6 <br />ANALYSIS <br />On September 10, 2020, the Arts Commission met to consider large grant funding recommendations for <br />Fiscal Year 2020-2021. The Commission discussed the Grant Applications and allocated $55,000 of its total <br />budget. In sum, fifteen local non-profit cultural and arts organizations submitted large grant requests <br />totaling $98,350. <br />The criteria for evaluating this year's applications included: <br />• Project proposals that celebrate diversity. <br />• Applications based in Redwood City or requesting funds for a performance in Redwood City. <br />• Applications from non-profit organization with demonstrated financial stability. <br />• Funding requested must represent no more than 20% of an applicant's total annual budget. <br />• A complete and accurate application detailing the proposed project along with attainable goals, <br />objectives, time frames, and a self-evaluation procedure which was submitted by established due <br />dates. <br />• Applications completed and presented to the Commission by an official representative of the <br />requesting organization. <br />• Applicants which obtained permission for the use of the facility and coordinated the time, date, <br />and specific requirements for the event with the facility owners prior to applying for Commission <br />funding. <br />Additional criteria specific to the COVID-19 pandemic included: <br />• Projects that follow COVID-19 safety guidelines and promote virtual attendance. <br />• Projects that are virtual and available for larger attendance. <br />• Organizations that suffered a significant financial impact due to COVID-19. <br />The Commission's recommendations for funding are contained in Attachment A of this report with a brief <br />description of the purpose of each grant request. The Commission hereby requests that its proposed grant <br />recommendations be approved and authorized by City Council. <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br />The Arts Commission large grants are funded by the City's General Fund. The total amount of proposed <br />funding agreements for large grants for FY 2020-21 is $55,000. The City Council has approved a total of <br />$73,896 for Arts Commission activities for FY 2020-21.
