6.P. - Page 4 of 6 <br />Attachment A: <br />BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ARTS COMMISSION <br />LARGE GRANT APPLICANTS FY 20-21 <br />Art in Action. Art in Action's mission is to empower students through arts education. They believe <br />that every child deserves access to quality and meaningful arts education that helps prepare them <br />for future success. 4th grade students from Adelante Selby Lane Elementary will design a proposed <br />2021 Spring Community Mural, with guidance from Art in Action and a local muralist. It will <br />showcase the children's' hopes and dreams for their community and their future. The spring <br />implementation or painting of the mural, will provide the Redwood City community an opportunity <br />to come together (in-person and virtually) to celebrate its unity, diversity, and to support its young <br />people has inspired vision of tomorrow. <br />Funding Requested: $24,300 Funding Recommended: $4,300. <br />Ballet America. Ballet America affiliated with the Academy of American Dance will be performing <br />the Nutcracker virtually in Redwood City on November 20 at 10:00 AM and November 21 at 2:00 <br />and 7:00 PM. This production will include dancers from Redwood City's Academy of American Ballet <br />and guest dancers from the Bay Area to perform the role of the Snow King, Russian, Cavalier, and <br />Sugar Plum Fairy. <br />Funding Requested: $3,500. Funding Recommended: $2,800. <br />Bethlehem AD. Bethlehem AD is an entertaining and educational re -recreation of "THE event" that <br />changed the dates of history. The purpose of Bethlehem AD is to present a historically accurate <br />version of the original Christmas story free to the Bay Area. This year a livestream and previously <br />prepared virtual Bethlehem AD video will run continuously from the Bethlehem AD website. <br />A tailored live performance would be given on the typical 3 nights of Bethlehem AD (Dec. 21, 22 <br />and 23). The performance duration would run shorter, from 6:00 to 9:00 (instead of 9:30). <br />Guests view the scene from inside their cars - ONLY as they drive down Middlefield Road. <br />Funding Requested: $3,000 Funding Recommended: $2,190. <br />Brave Maker. Brave Maker exists to elevate brave stories for diversity and inclusion. They have <br />monthly film screenings and a summer film festival to host community discussions on our culture's <br />most important social issues. Birthed by the historical world-wide protests for racial justice for <br />Black lives, this series of video content will detail and document the lives of students who have <br />experienced racially violent words and actions and those that are fighting to dismantle it. Redwood <br />City stories is a proposed docuseries filmed in Redwood City, California by and for students <br />documenting cultural origin stories and how youth can become more socially justice oriented. <br />Funding Requested: $3,000 Funding Recommended: $3,000. <br />Casa Circulo Cultural. Casa Circulo Cultural's mission is to provide creative, educational, and <br />recreational opportunities for Hispanic families, while promoting Hispanic art, culture, and <br />traditions. To celebrate the 10th Annual Dia de los Muertos, they will be hosting a variety of <br />opportunities for the community to participate. They will create a mobile float and drive it <br />throughout Redwood City for photo-opps and information about the tradition. They will also be <br />showing some videos using social media, with performances by students who are taking virtual <br />classes as well as host a couple virtual Day of the Dead workshops for the community to connect <br />and learn more about the tradition. <br />Funding Requested: $3,000.
