6.R. - Page 1 of 10 <br />AQiik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />wended 1967 <br />I�Zw <br />DATE: October 12, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Resolution of the City Council authorizing an additional $220,000 in Fiscal Year 2020-2021 Park Impact <br />Fees for the Magical Bridge Playground Project <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Adopt a resolution (1) authorizing the City Manager to increase the contract amount for the Magical <br />Bridge Playground project by 3.25% of the amount awarded and amended for a final total contract amount <br />of $6,995,192 and (2) approving an appropriation amendment to Fiscal Year 2020-2021 Park Impact Fees <br />Fund by $220,000 towards this project. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Healthy Community for All <br />BACKGROUND <br />On September 13, 2016, the City Council approved a license agreement with the Magical Bridge <br />Foundation ("Foundation") to build a new, highly accessible Magical Bridge Playground in Redwood <br />City. This partnership was inspired by the original privately -developed playground in Mitchell Park, Palo <br />Alto, California. The Foundation raised funding for the project. Large donors sponsored specific features <br />and zones and the City allocated Capital Improvement Project (CIP) funding for the project. <br />The project went out to bid in April 2018 and was rejected based on receiving bids exceeding the <br />engineer's estimate. The project was re -bid in August, and on October 22, 2018, the Magical Bridge <br />Playground construction project was awarded to Robert A.
