Carmel neighborhood, I urge you to adopt the Draft Report re: ADUs, limiting <br />them to 16 ft. height. As many of us have increased our neighborhood walks during the pandemic, I am <br />shocked at the number of people building ADUs so close to the property line of their neighbor, with the <br />ADU being built so high that the neighbor has effectively lost the view, privacy and air that they thought <br />they were acquiring when they purchased their own home. It simply isn't fair --a person should have the <br />right to choose whether they want to own/live in a home where there are occupants of a residence next- <br />door looking down on their house/property/bedroom/bathroom, and where their view of the sky and trees <br />is replaced by the wall and windows of an ADU. To invest in a home and then later be trapped with an <br />ADU being built next-door that completely invades one's privacy and view is grossly unfair. There are <br />better ways to address housing issues. Why not turn away the developers of high-priced apartments and <br />favor developers willing to build below-market rentals and/or condos for purchase? <br />As it just so happens, there are ADUs in the backyards of several of our adjacent neighbors, and another <br />neighbor rents out one or more rooms in his home. While this does impact parking and other density <br />issues, I am just grateful none of these ADUs have resulted in structures peering down into our house or <br />yard. <br />Please do the right thing and remember who you represent ---the citizens of Redwood City, who can <br />reasonably expect to maintain the neighborhood they bought into! <br />Elaine Tipton <br />RWC Resident 35 Years <br />
