6.G. - Page 1 of 4 <br />/<4Ak <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />wended 1967 <br />IQW <br />DATE: October 12, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Final acceptance of Rule 20 Middlefield Road Phase 1 Underground Utility District Project <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, accept the Rule 20 Middlefield Road Phase 1 Underground Utility District Project, and <br />authorize the release of bonds and retention according to City procedures. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Transportation <br />BACKGROUND <br />The purpose of the undergrounding project is to improve the safety, aesthetics, and walkability of the <br />neighborhood around Middlefield Road. <br />On February 6, 2012, the City Council adopted an Ordinance (No. 2376) forming the Middlefield Road <br />Underground Utility District (MUUD) to provide for the removal and the underground relocation of <br />existing overhead electric and telecommunication utility lines on Middlefield Road between Main Street <br />and MacArthur Avenue, in accordance with Pacific Gas and Electric Company's (PG&E's) Rule 20 Program'. <br />On September 9, 2013, the City adopted an Ordinance (No. 2397) to amend the boundaries and extend <br />the date for overhead removals. <br />'See the following link for information on PG&E's Rule 20 program. <br />https://www.pge.com/mybusi ness/customerservice/energystatus/streetconstruction/rule20/i ndex.shtml <br />Page 1 of 3 <br />City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcitV.org <br />63 <br />
