8.A. - Page 19 of 104 In addition, through our partnership with the Port of Redwood City, we were able to provide drive-in Motor Movies and community favorite, Zoppe Circus, and are working with Casa Circulo Cultural on a drive through Dia de los Muertos event in Downtown on November 1. We also continue to have great participation in our online story times, Little Learner craft programs with curbside pickup of books and craft kids, and other children's programs and activities. In addition to the City's local efforts, staff and Councilmembers are participating in the San Mateo County Recovery Coordination Council, which has developed a vision and strategy for county -wide pandemic recovery. San Mateo County's Recovery initiative is a collaboration among local government agencies, community-based organizations and nonprofits, private partners, and residents to promote inclusive recovery and leverage the collective capacity of the whole community to build a more equitable, healthy, connected San Mateo County. In San Mateo County: • 65% of COVID-19 cases are residents of color and ethnic minorities, • 20,000 low-income workers have lost their jobs, • 21,815 immigrants have applied for $1,000 in financial assistance, • 3,924 households have applied for rental assistance, • 4.1 million pounds of food are now being distributed each month by Second Harvest Food Bank (a 250% increase), • 4,411 school children lack the tools and/or Internet access needed for distance learning, and • Over 600 small businesses have applied for financial assistance. The Recovery Initiative developed more than 125 recommendations organized into 10 key recovery areas to be pursued by community partners through five committees: Public Health • Promote community compliance with health directives • Reduce the spread of COVID-19 particularly across communities of color and service and essential workers hardest-hit by the virus Community Infrastructure Committee • Provide internet and connectivity for all • Support public and active transportation Economic Recovery Committee Provide support for all businesses with an emphasis on small and minority-owned businesses • Prepare employees for post-COVID jobs Vulnerable Population Support Committee • Ensure provision of basic needs including shelter and food • Support those in need of mental health resources Education and Child Care Committee • Expand access to affordable age 0-5 child care • Support school and out-of-school care Active participation in this initiative will help the City meet important community needs.
