(In practice, Redwood City <br />Police Department has not used it in over 10 years.) <br />o Direction to return a donated surplus military tactical vehicle (returned in September); <br />o Increased frequency of racial and cultural diversity training from the mandated 5 years <br />to every 2 years <br />o Formally endorsed the Obama Foundation Mayor's Pledge <br />o Committed to increasing availability of police information to the public online (Webpage <br />created immediately and data preparation and additions are ongoing) <br />o Establishment of the Redwood City Council Ad Hoc Committee on Policing <br />Redwood City Parks, Recreation & Community Services preserved street art associated with the <br />June 2, 2020 Black Lives Matter protest, and presented the murals as an art exhibit from July 1 <br />through August 14 outside the Downtown Library, accompanied by Library-curated resources on <br />racism for community learning <br />• August 10 City Council direction to the Arts Commission to develop a work plan to create a <br />mural or monument to reflect the City's commitment to racial equity and inclusion, and <br />adoption of Resolution 15877 declaring that Black Lives Matter and reaffirming the City's <br />commitment to racial equity, including: <br />o Improving diversity in its hiring practices, promotions within City departments, and <br />appointments to City boards, committees and commissions, as well as rooting out all <br />forms of bias, discrimination or harassment within City government, wherever that may <br />exist <br />o Considering opportunities for increasing community involvement in Police policies and <br />activities <br />o Strengthening the City's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion within the City <br />organization and in the provision of City services <br />o Conducting ongoing review of City policies to ensure equal treatment of all residents; <br />o Listening, learning, and collaborating with our community to seek the change that we <br />need and to identify clear actions going forward <br />• October 5 City Council study session on racial equity, City services and policing. <br />o The Ad Hoc Committee on Policing recommended development of an Equity Work Plan <br />focused on: <br />■ Equity in public safety <br />■ Equity in all City services, and <br />■ Equity in the community as a whole <br />o Supporting initiatives include: <br />■ Participate in a pilot program with San Mateo County and Stanford University to <br />partner mental health clinicians with police officers responding to crisis calls <br />■ Improve public safety data collection, analysis and transparency through data <br />sharing related to use of force; interactions with members of the public, <br />particularly the breakdown of service calls and employee -initiated activity; <br />public safety interactions by geographic areas of service; demographic <br />characteristics for employees hired and promoted; analysis of Redwood City <br />BUDGET MESSAGE 44 <br />
