From: Joanna Bueche <br />To: GRP -City Council <br />Subject: Unacceptable budget reductions <br />Date: Saturday, October 24, 2020 4:52:59 PM <br />Dear City Council, <br />We're unhappy to hear about the cuts you expect to make to firefighter and police budgets, <br />including the elimination of fire engine nine and the decision to leave nine police officer positions <br />unfilled. We recognize economic conditions have worsened due to Covid 19 restrictions. But it <br />seems maintaining vital services, like police and fire protection, would take precedence over very <br />large raises for city officials. How does the cityjustify an $88,856 raise for the City Manager, who <br />makes more than Gavin Newsom, while reducing services for the public? What makes the $56,320 <br />City Attorney's raise more important than the basic protection of the citizens from fire and/or <br />criminal behavior? <br />We have lived in Redwood City for over ten years, have paid tens of thousands in taxes and deserve <br />better. We want top city officials and don't have a problem with them being well paid. But this is <br />egregious and to hear that it is happening while reducing basic vital services is appalling.
