Fmm:
Brandy Falcon
To:
GVdv Ounol
subject
Don" Out Our MW Fire Rabons
Bate:
&Kraday, Oaaba 24, 202012:53:52 PM
Dear Council Members,
It was brought to my attention that Redwood City is proposing a $2.05 million dollar
cut to the fire department. I, and probably the majority of residents (if they knew
about this!) do not approve.
From the RWC Firefighter Association:
"The budget cut is certain to include the closure of our downtown engine (E9) with the
alternative plan of having a ladder truck (Truck 9) respond in its place. The engine is
historically the busiest engine in San Mateo County and runs nearly 3000 calls for
service a year. We have seen continual increases in fires (89 percent over the past 5
years) in addition to an overall increase in calls. This leaves us with an ever
expanding downtown district with no water or apparatus with pumping capabilities."
I do not understand why you would consider cutting the fire department at all when it
is obviously there to keep Redwood City residents safe in a time when we need
emergency services the most.
You will need to figure something else out if your budget is off. We paid higher taxes
for RR to keep our population protected.
Sincerely,
Brandy Falcon
Holistic Wellness Practitioner
