People have died, businesses have shuttered, and
millions have lost jobs. I understand that perhaps revisions need to be made in the current budget in
order for the city to remain operational but it's truly disheartening to read that the proposed budget
to be presented on Monday is one that hits our fire stations and firefighters the most. How does that
possibly make any sense? In the past five years fires have increased in California and they've moved
closer and closer to our community. August alone saw at minimum 3 massive fires in Northern
California/the Bay Area. The air was completely hazardous for an entire month and on and off for
several weeks afterwards. I don't understand how temporarily closing Engine 9 which serves
Redwood City is an adequate solution. It doesn't seem like this proposal is taking into account how
the Redwood City community will be impacted by this, how people could be harmed by this closure.
Instead of allocating funds for police department spending, perhaps those funds could be better used
by the fire department, Parks and recreation, and other community services. Also has Redwood
City's police department returned the military tank it owns?
Best,
Jeanelle Ortiz
httns://mvemall.constantcontact.com/Redwood-City-City-Council-to-Consider-Revised-Fisc
2020-2 1 -Budaet-October-26--2020.html?
soid=1109843384104&aid=8KPbDAxa5BY&fbclid=IwAR1NMy7UDyrYw46IMp5JXKCY3XAXA-
ehFXiWSV6pantS5sNSKYR4EcOSygs
https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/06/10/redwood-city-council-votes-to-increase-top-officials-
pay-will-consider-increase-in-police-spending/?fbclid=IwAR 1 I7yW 17CH -
O S3hCSRvweaFsudz3 sjvJaaydysEHyV01 ECGIOfNXkcO S 8
https://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/local/redwood-city police-get-750k-military-style-tanker/83828/
httns://abc7news. com/bav-area-police-eciuiDment-Detaluma-mran-receives-most-militarv-
pd/6281864/
