A cannabis storefront retail business is a licensed premise with a
physical location from which the sale of cannabis would be conducted. A retail business
would be open to the public, and allow for delivery.
Cannabis storefront retailers would operate similarly to other retail uses, and the proposed
zoning amendments would allow retail cannabis to be located in all of Redwood City's zoning
districts that currently permit general retail either by right or with a Conditional Use Permit
(CUP). By right means that stores could locate in the zoning districts without a discretionary
review process and permit, but would still need to adhere to any other established
requirements and obtain a business license with the City to operate. CUPs may be required
in certain zoning districts based on the proposed size of the space. In either case, retail
cannabis locations would still be subject to distancing requirements of 600 feet from
sensitive uses and would be required to apply for a Cannabis Business Permit.
The following table details where general retail is currently allowed by zoning district in
Redwood City. Bold highlighted districts indicate where, as proposed, retail cannabis
would be permitted by right. Italics indicate where it would be conditionally permitted
with limitations for square feet.
Pagel of 5
127
