Aguirre, Council Member Ian Bain, Council Member Janet Borgens, Council Member Giselle Hale, Council Member Diana Reddy, Council Member From: Pat Mapelli, Land Use Manager — Graniterock Date: November 9, 2020 Subject: November 9, 2020 City Council Agenda Item 7.A. — Study Session on Potential Bayfront Park and County Navigation Center Honorable Mayor and City Council Members: I am writing to you today regarding Agenda Item 7.A. - Study Session on potential Bayfront Park and County Navigation Center - which has been calendared for the City Council's meeting on November 9, 2020. We at Graniterock applaud the City's and San Mateo County's collaborative goal of "functional zero" to end homelessness within our community. As you know, Graniterock is a construction materials supply company and heavy civil contractor. Our Redwood City operation, located at 355 & 365 Blomquist Road, produces, and distributes concrete and asphalt from aggregate transported from Graniterock's quarry in Aromas, California for use in construction projects throughout the Peninsula. Because the facility is strategically located along the rail line, Graniterock is able to receive aggregate from the Aromas quarry by rail transport, minimizing the need to transport this material by truck along already congested roadways, including Highway 101. We note from the November 9, 2020, Staff Report that the City is being asked to study a potential land exchange agreement with the County, resulting in an exchange of the County's parcel at 1580 Maple Street with the City's parcel at 1402 Maple Street. The stated purpose of this exchange would be to provide for the construction of the Blomquist Extension — with enormous benefits for our community — and for the County's construction of a new homeless "navigation" center and, potentially, transitional and permanent, supportive housing at 1402 Maple Street.
