From: Linda Dulaney <br />To: GRP -City Council; MGR -Melissa Stevenson Diaz <br />Subject: Please vote NO on the Greystar project <br />Date: Monday, November 9, 2020 5:32:00 PM <br />Dear Redwood City Council members, <br />I am writing to plead with you to vote NO on the Greystar project this evening. <br />Once again we are being offered a huge, unappealing building project in our downtown. The beauty and integrity of <br />our once inviting community is being turned into an industrial complex with high rises and dense living spaces. <br />I think of New York City's Central Park which offers city dwellers an escape and green space where they can enjoy <br />the outdoors. With the current pandemic, you should recognize the need for more open space for residents. Think <br />of how beneficial it would be to have a park that offers children a safe playground, adults a space for outdoor yoga, <br />tai chi, and strolls through a beautiful garden with lovely flowers, trees, and water features. Please demand that <br />developers provide an attractive open space in addition to the large buildings they are proposing. <br />I recognize we need more housing for residents and employees, but please try to strike a better balance so that we <br />don't end up with a sea of cement towers defining downtown Redwood City. <br />The Council seems focused on one goal: let's build huge towering buildings. Great, but at what cost? Many of us <br />feel like we don't even recognize our city anymore. The 'improvements' to downtown Redwood City seem to <br />benefit employees who may not even live in our city, and renters who may only live here for a short time. What <br />about those of us who have lived in Redwood City for decades? <br />With plans for more employees and residents, I dread thinking about driving anywhere near downtown Redwood <br />City soon. Traffic on El Camino is already challenging depending on the time of day. With every new development <br />project recently, we are looking at more employees and residents downtown and therefore, more traffic on our <br />streets. <br />Frankly, I am very disappointed that our once appealing city is turning into a landscape of high rises. <br />Please stop and consider the voices against this Greystar project.
