COVID-19 has devastated San Mateo County's child care providers. The lack of child care slots in Redwood City was
a critical issue before COVID-19, today it is only exacerbated. Getting our economy on a path to recovery will
require child care for families at all income levels to feel confident to return to work. South Main's child care facility
is essential to Redwood City's economic recovery.
Child care is valuable community infrastructure that interrelates with housing and transit. Child care sited near
housing, jobs, and transit reduces trip counts. The South Main Mixed -Use project puts child care in walking distance
to Caltrain, SamTrans, and Redwood City's Downtown.
On behalf of Build Up for SMC's Children, 4Cs of San Mateo County and First 5 SMC, we strongly support Greystar's
South Main Mixed -Use project as an example of how Redwood City can benefit when a developer listens to the
community and commits to critical community benefits like affordable housing and child care.
