6.A. - Page 97 of 251 <br />Appendix <br />Organic/Food Waste Diversion <br />In 2016, Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383) established methane emissions reduction targets in a statewide effort to reduce <br />emissions of short-lived climate pollutants in various sectors of California's economy. SB 1383 establishes target <br />to achieve a 50 percent reduction in the level of statewide disposal of organic waste from 2014 levels by 2020 and <br />a 75 percent reduction by 2025. The law grants CalRecycle the regulatory authority required to achieve the organic <br />waste disposal reduction targets. More information about SB 1383 can be found online at: <br />https://www.calrecycle.ca.gov/climate/slcp <br />CA Local Policy <br />In September 2019, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution declaring a climate <br />emergency in San Mateo County to highlight the increasingly urgent need for action to address the climate crisis. <br />The County of San Mateo joined over 1,000 national, international, and local jurisdictions with similar declarations. <br />The resolution calls for the County to create climate action plans (CAPs) for its government operations and <br />unincorporated community that will achieve carbon neutrality in advance of the State of California's 2045 goal, and <br />coordinate with the cities and other local partners in addressing the climate crisis." <br />City of Redwood City Climate Action Plan 86 <br />402 <br />
