6.G. - Page 2 of 124
maximizing the usable work area. The Division is currently using two diesel operated 2008 Ford F350
Supercab trucks, which have reached the end of their useful life.
ANALYSIS
When researching new equipment, staff is continuously seeking ways to embrace new technologies that
reduce the City's carbon footprint while allowing the City to continue providing high-quality services to
residents. Staff conducted market research to identify replacement vehicles that would achieve these
goals. There are no electric or alternative fuel -powered vehicles available within the desired vehicle class
to meet the operational demand. The 2021 Ford F350 Supercab was determined to meet the Division's
needs and is available with a gasoline -powered engine instead of the diesel engines currently in use. The
cranes mounted will be electric -powered, utilizing inverters that eliminate the need to run the engine or
a portable generator while in use. Additionally, all other equipment installed on these vehicles will also
be electrically powered, further reducing overall emissions.
On September 25, 2020, staff released a Notice Inviting Sealed Bids, the bid submission period closed on
October 23, 2020, with three bids received. To allow for any delays in mail delivery caused by the current
coronavirus pandemic, the bid opening was scheduled for October 28, 2020.
The bids received are summarized below:
Staff recommends awarding the bid to Towne Ford Sales as they are the lowest responsive and responsible
bidder.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds of $225,621 are available in the FY 2020/21 Equipment Replacement Fund. This amount will
subsequently be recovered from the user departments' operating budget through vehicle replacement
charges in future years.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.ore
250
Towne Ford Sales
$225,620.75
(Redwood City, CA)
American Truck & Trailer Body Co.
$250,571.96
(Tracy, CA)
San Leandro Ford
$250,666.07
(San Leandro, CA)
Staff recommends awarding the bid to Towne Ford Sales as they are the lowest responsive and responsible
bidder.
FISCAL IMPACT
Funds of $225,621 are available in the FY 2020/21 Equipment Replacement Fund.
