6.1. - Page 1 of 9 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: November 23, 2020 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Settlement Agreement between Sensus USA Inc. and the City of Redwood City for the replacement of <br />approximately 7,200 water meters <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute the Settlement and Release Agreement <br />between Sensus USA Inc. and the City of Redwood City for the replacement of approximately 7,200 water <br />meters. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Excellence in Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />Between 2012 and 2014 Redwood City (City) installed approximately 7,200 water meters purchased from <br />Sensus USA Inc. (Sensus). A dispute later arose between the City and Sensus regarding these meters that <br />could not be resolved by other means that did not include replacement. The affected meters are also <br />within the manufacturer published warranty period, and both parties have agreed the solution to resolve <br />the dispute is to replace the meters. <br />ANALYSIS <br />Some of the 7,200 meters may malfunction between now and the end of their useful life resulting in <br />recording water consumption that does not meet industry standards. Meters exhibiting this issue are <br />easily identified, and many meters may never exhibit the issue prior to routine replacement.
