6.C. - Page 4 of 28 <br />SMC Digital Divide - Project Outline (RWC) <br />The County of San Mateo's Information Services Division (ISD) has been directed by the County Board of <br />Supervisors to expand the County's public Wi-Fi services in Redwood City in areas densely populated by <br />students and their families where they lack internet connectivity. This expansion will allow students to <br />stay in or near their homes where they can safely connect to the internet distance learning. Families will <br />also benefit with being able to connect to have access to online information, tele -health benefits, and <br />teleworking (if this is an option with their jobs). <br />For the County's public Wi-Fi to reach students in need, it is necessary to utilize streetlights or light poles <br />owned and management by Redwood City (RWC). The current proposed design encompasses the use of between 20 to 119 light <br />poles. Given that CARES funds must be spent by Dec 31, 2020 once RWC approves the use of these <br />poles the contractor for the County will install as many devices as possible with the time remaining in the <br />month. <br />97 <br />
