'Legislative Action Days' Continued from Page 1... Legislative Action Days are designed so that city officials can learn about the latest on issues such as the budget, climate change regulatory efforts and legislation, infrastructure bond implementation, land use, and other key legislation. Legislative Action Days are also a prime opportunity for visiting city officials to meet with state legislators to deliver the message of the importance of preserving local services. Schedule Wednesday, April 16 General session: 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Sacramento Convention Center, Rooms 306/307 The League has asked all of the speakers to address state budget issues because of the importance to cities. In addition, the speakers will also discuss other significant maters related to their positions in the Legislature. . Assembly Member Karen Bass, Speaker-Elect of the Assembly (D-Los Angeles), will discuss the issue areas she hopes to impact as the future Assembly Speaker; . Assembly Member Anna Caballero, chair, Assembly Local Government Committee (D- Salinas), will discuss the major legislative issues affecting local government; . Senator Dave Cogdill (R-Fresno), Senate Republican Leader-Elect, will discuss his goals and objectives as the new Senate Republican Leader and his view on water supply issues; . Senator Alan Lowenthal, chair, Senate Transportation and Housing Committee (D-Long Beach), will address pending infrastructure bond implementation actions and goods movement; and . Senator Alex Padilla (D-Los Angeles) will discuss the main policy areas Senate Democrats want to impact this session as well as how his experience on the Los Angeles City Council has benefited his tenure in the Senate. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has also been invited give his remarks to the city officials present for Legislative Action Days. This session is an opportunity to discuss the meetings as well as hear updates on relevant issues with time for Q and A. Leqislative Reception: 5:30-7 p.m., Sheraton Grand Sacramento, Sheraton Ballrooms Invite your legislator to join you and your colleagues at this special legislative reception. "Building Sustainable Communities" is the reception's theme. This theme provides the framework for the League's 2008 strategic priorities and the event will reinforce how protection of local revenues, effective allocation of infrastructure bonds, maintaining local flexibility on local greenhouse gas reduction strategies, and enacting honest eminent domain reform are vital to the success of California's 478 cities. 3
