<br />The three Council Members returned to the dais. <br /> <br />Mayor Foust reiterated the items that were approved via the Consent Calendar by <br />reading the titles of each action, including the resolutions and ordinances. <br /> <br />******************************************************************************************************* <br /> <br />Oral Communications: <br />Cristina Thorson addressed the Council regarding library programs. In particular, Ms. <br />Thorson elaborated on a recent author (Francisco Jimenez) who presented his work <br />and signed books to a full audience. Ms. Thorson said this was a well-attended event <br />and she was appreciative of the partnership with Hoover School. Principal Lan, with <br />Hoover School, also expressed his pride in this partnership. <br /> <br />Marianne Hoxie said that she had called the City Clerk and she is hoping for some <br />answers that she has not gotten regarding housing and health insurance. Ms. Hoxie <br />spoke about rental increases in her building and she wants to know what the law on the <br />issue of rent control is. She spoke about her health insurance provider not coming to <br />Redwood City. <br /> <br />Mayor Foust asked the City Attorney to comment. City Attorney Yamamoto said that <br />the City does not have rent control.. Mayor Foust encouraged Ms. Hoxie to <br />communicate with City Clerk Vonderlinden, Ms. Debbi Jones-Thomas and possibly Ms. <br />Teri Chin, the Human Services Manager, to get assistance on her inquiries. <br /> <br />7. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> <br />A. Legislation (information only) - This sub-section involves possible discussion of <br />City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of California Cities <br />Priority Focus Bulletin No. 4-2008 and 5-2008. Council may direct staff to act on <br />positions taken by Council. (Copies of League of California Cities Priority Focus <br />available in City Clerk's Department). <br /> <br />B. Presentation on the Port of Redwood City. <br /> <br />The Port's Executive Director, Michael Giari, presented an overview of its <br />operations. He explained this is a landlord port, which means the property is leased <br />to other users that use it for marine shipping and industrial purposes. He explained <br />that the Port is a revenue-producing department of the City and it functions without <br />any assistance from the City (presentation on file). He highlighted projects the Port <br />is working on such as the proposed new Ferry Service and how the Port is <br />collaborating with the newly created Water Emergency Transportation Authority. <br /> <br />C. Joint Meeting of the City Council and the Port of Redwood City. <br /> <br />Mayor Foust announced that the Chair of the Port Commission would not be present <br />due to health issues. City Clerk Vonderlinden did the roll call for the Port of Redwood <br />City.
