<br />Mayor Foust made some introductory remarks. Mr. Bell, Assistant City Manager and <br />the facilitator, introduced the agenda for the evening (presentation on file). <br /> <br />Each commissioner shared the importance and length of service on the Port <br />Commission. Subsequently, Vice Chairperson Dodge provided an overview of the Port <br />Commission and its charter. <br /> <br />Public Comment <br />Greg Greenway, with Seaport Industrial Association, offered comments regarding the <br />Port Charter. Mr. Greenway found this joint meeting beneficial. He spoke about the <br />Port's value being the largest recycling center in the entire Bay area and being a multi- <br />modal commercial transit oriented hub. He mentioned issues such as the availability of <br />land, lease terms, investment and infrastructure as well as long-range market <br />opportunities. He is proud that Redwood City is a leader and champion of adaptive <br />change. <br /> <br />Clem Molony, congratulated the work done by the Charter Ad Hoc committee, and he is <br />pleased that people speak positively of the Port. He believes this area of the City, <br />including Lyngso and the Port, illustrates smart growth. It is his opinion that companies <br />in that area are modernizing and investing in new technologies. He is proud that many <br />of the people at the table have business expertise. <br /> <br />Mark Sanders spoke in support of continuing the dialogue between the City Council and <br />the Port. He opined that the City should consider the waterfront as an extension of <br />Redwood City. He said that Redwood City has nine marinas and this is the most any <br />city has in the Bay Area. He explained the financial importance of these marinas. <br /> <br />A discussion took place and many topics were brought forth including: <br />· The Port and the waterfront and its relationship to the New General Plan <br />· Two way communication on an ongoing basis <br />· Advertising and marketing tools and showing off our maritime assets <br />· Exploration of Port/City strategic plan development <br />· Expansion of SWOT and economic report/analysis <br />· Other state and federal agencies and regulations regarding the Port area <br />· Exploration of departments that provide services to the Port <br />· Contact between the Executive Director and the Department Heads to improve <br />communication <br />. Working with the stakeholders <br />· Finding broader responsibility in the area of clean-up and assignment of the 17- <br />miles of waterway Redwood City has <br />· Precise Plan east of 101 and having more collaboration on various projects <br />· Partnership Academy for Citizens Team could include the Port as a City <br />Department <br />.
