Synchronization of marketing and communication efforts

Some Port Commissioners expressed an interest in meeting with the newly hired
General Plan consultant. The consensus was that the Planning Manager is to report on
this topic and the consultant will communicate with the Port. Regarding the Saltworks
discussion, there was consensus to keep the Port, Council and the Planning
Commission informed and facilitate a dialogue.

Some of the next steps outlined and agreed upon were:
. Planning Manager will include the Port in the General Plan process
. The City Manager and Port Director will report on an integrated planning
approach (this to be followed by Council direction on a strategic plan for the Port
and its waterfront)
. Coordination and discussion between the Council and Port as the Saltworks
project emerges
. The City Manager and the Port Director will discuss attendance of the latter at
the Department Head meetings for better exchange of information
. Look at City Departments providing services to the Port (the City Manager and
the Port Director will follow-up on this item)
. Emergency response activities (the City Manager and the Port Director will
follow-up on this item)
. Combining marketing efforts such as a newsletter and considering economy of
scales (the City Council will review this option at its upcoming priority session)
. Council expressed an interest in receiving regular updates from Port Executive
Director Giari so the Council is aware of the Port's activities.

There was also consensus to have the Mayor and Vice Mayor enable a meeting with
the City Manager and the Chair and Vice Chair of the Port to pull together a
subcommittee. This subcommittee of the Port and Council will discuss how to develop
an ongoing communication plan to improve dialogue between the two bodies. Mayor
Foust thanked the Port Commission for its hard work, and reinforced the need for a
continued dialogue.

Council took a break a 10-minute break at 9:02 p.m. The meeting resumed at 9:15 p.m.

8.
