8.A. - Page 1 of 3 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: January 11, 2021 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />City Council appointment to the Planning Commission for a partial term vacancy ending June 30, 2022 <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By roll call vote, appoint for one partial term seat on the Planning Commission that will expire on June 30, <br />2022. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Excellence in Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />On December 3, 2020, the San Mateo County Elections Division certified the results of the November 3, <br />2020 General Municipal Election, validating that one member of the Planning Commission, Michael Smith, <br />had been elected to the Redwood City City Council. This has created the need to fill a vacancy on the <br />Planning Commission of a partially served term that expires on June 30, 2022. In 2020, the City recruited <br />for applicants to fill Planning Commission vacancies and at its September 21, 2020 meeting, the City <br />Council determined to use the existing Planning Commission applicant pool through January 31, 2021 to <br />fill any additional Planning Commission vacancies. <br />ANALYSIS <br />Staff conducted a robust recruitment for various Boards, Commissions, and Committees (BCCs) last year, <br />and the City received 13 applications to fill two full-term seats on the Planning Commission, expiring on <br />June 30, 2024.
