Additionally, the work plan and public engagement process
is to be "thoughtful, robust, engaging, inclusive, and effective."
Due to the intricacies and potential budget, the Commission recommends a mural in Redwood City to
symbolize our commitment to racial equity and justice for all, and to spur ongoing dialog and change.
OUTREACH & ENGAGEMENT
This project is important to so many in our community and we want to ensure that all voices are heard
when the Commission is exploring and confirming the specifics of this initiative. Below is the plan to
solicit community input:
• Establish Steering Committee (5 - 7 members) which will be composed by the following:
o Two Art Commissioners - currently Ashley Quintana and Erin Ashford though may rotate
the specific commissioners assigned to project based on bandwidth
o A diverse group of local Redwood City/ Bay Area community members with a passion for
the arts (art admins, artists, City's Planning Division, youth, teachers, building owners,
etc.)
o People committed to advancing racial equity in arts and culture
o Available to attend and participate in multiple online meetings per month (January 2021
through Summer 2021)
■ Meetings will be used to narrow down and identify locations for a mural,
funding confirmation, artist selection criteria to share with the community,
discuss methodology in order to share with the community, Request for
Qualifications (RFQ) process, outreach to artists' process and what facilitating
the community in dialogue around a mural symbolizing Redwood City's
commitment to racial equity can look like.
251
