B. Contractor shall protect open excavations and trenches with covers, railings and fences <br />as required, together with signs, lights and other warning devices sufficient to protect and <br />maintain safe pedestrian, bicycle, and vehicular traffic through the work area to the <br />satisfaction of the City Engineer. <br />C. Contractor shall conduct operations in such a manner that existing facilities and utilities <br />which are to remain in place will note be damaged. Excavation, trenching, and other work <br />under or adjacent to existing pipelines, conduit runs, or structures of any kind, shall be <br />protected in such a manner as not to interfere with the safe operation and use of such <br />facilities. Should any damage be incurred to existing facilities or structures during the <br />operations, the Contractor shall immediately notify the proper owners or authorities, and <br />shall arrange for the immediate repair of the facilities at the Contractor's expense. <br />D. The location of proposed signal and electrolier standards, pull boxes, conduits, cabinets, <br />and other equipment shown on the plans is approximate only and the exact location of <br />such shall be as established in the field by the City Engineer. <br />E. Construction area shall be left in a clean, neat, and workmanlike condition. All construction <br />waste, rubbish, and debris remaining upon completion of the work shall become the <br />property of the Contractor unless otherwise specified herein or noted on the plans and <br />shall be removed from the work -site by the Contractor and disposed of off-site in a lawful <br />manner to the satisfaction of the City Engineer. <br />F. Comply and conform to conditions and requirements indicated herein and specified under <br />all other sections of these Specifications. <br />1.06 MAINTAINING EXISTING AND TEMPORARY ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS <br />A. Traffic signal and street lighting system shutdowns shall be limited to periods between the <br />hours of 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM. <br />B. Existing street lighting and signal communication systems shall be maintained during <br />construction operations. Maintain existing safety lighting on streets to the minimum <br />required by the Special Provisions, or as required by the City Engineer. Maintenance of <br />existing street light and traffic signal systems shall be considered as included in the <br />contract lump sum prices for the work item involved and no additional compensation will <br />be allowed therefore. <br />C. The contractor shall place "Stop Ahead" and "Stop" signs to direct vehicle and pedestrian <br />traffic through the intersection during traffic signal system shutdown. Temporary "Stop <br />Ahead" and "Stop" signs shall be either covered or removed when the system is turned <br />on. <br />D. "Stop Ahead" and "Stop" signs shall be furnished by the contractor and shall conform to <br />the provisions in the California MUTCD and Section 12-3.11, "Construction Area Signs", <br />of the State Standard Specifications, except that the base material for the signs shall not <br />be plywood. <br />E. One "Stop Ahead" sign and two "Stop" signs shall be placed for each direction of traffic. <br />Location of the signs shall be as directed by the City Engineer. <br />F. Full compensation for furnishing, installing, maintaining and removing temporary "Stop <br />Ahead" and "Stop" signs and for covering signs not in use shall be considered as included <br />in the contract lump sum price paid for the work item involved and no additional <br />compensation will be allowed therefore. <br />REV: 12-21-2020 PR <br />ATTY/AGR.2020.306/Bear Electrical Solutions (Page 21 of 35) <br />
