6.D. - Page 1 of 9 <br />/<�ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />Faunded 1867 <br />A,&/ <br />DATE: January 25, 2021 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Final acceptance of Redwood City Pavement Preservation Project (Twin Dolphin Overlay) <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, accept the Redwood City Pavement Preservation Project (Twin Dolphin Overlay) and authorize <br />the release of bonds and retention according to City procedures. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Transportation <br />BACKGROUND <br />The Redwood City Pavement Preservation Project (Twin Dolphin Overlay) will preserve and extend the <br />serviceable life of Twin Dolphin Drive by protecting the pavement surfaces with a 2" layer of Hot Mix <br />Asphalt (HMA) concrete. In addition to the pavement overlay, the project included spot repairs, <br />construction of accessible curb ramps, installation of pavement markings and enhanced bicycle facilities. <br />As a federally funded project, the environmental review and project authorization was processed through <br />Caltrans. Staff received the authorization to proceed with construction from Caltrans on February 3, 2020. <br />The City published an invitation to bid on the project on February 12, 2020 and received six bids on March <br />12, 2020. O'Grady Paving, Inc. of Mountain View was the lowest responsible bidder. <br />On April 27, 2020, the City Council awarded a construction contract to O'Grady Paving, Inc., in the amount <br />of $991,411.40. On August 24, 2020, the City Council approved an amendment of the contract to increase <br />the contract amount by $451,923 for a total contract of $1,443,334.40; and authorized the City Manager <br />to increase the contract amount, if necessary, up to 10% of the amended contract amount, for a not to <br />exceed total of $1,587,667.84.
