From: -
To: GRP -City Council
Subject: Study Session on proposed Redwood City Transit District and update on Sequoia Station.
Date: Monday, January 25, 20215:59:43 PM
CAUTION: This email originated from outside your organization. Exercise caution when opening attachments or
clicking links, especially from unknown senders.
Dear City Council,
These are my thoughts regarding the above referenced Agenda Item/Study Session.
Housing is one of Redwood City's stated seven Strategic Initiatives.
We already have an existing jobs -to -housing imbalance. This project makes the imbalance even more extreme.
This project's contribution to the housing strategic initiative is to create a net DEFICIT of approximately 6,000
housing units! Because of the jobs created.
Add to that, the emerging pattern of many businesses to change to a "work -at-home" protocol.
This project is out -of -step with both of those two realities.
Moreover, because of its central location and proximity to downtown, the Sequoia Station property would be best
used and developed for a majority of Redwood City residents by providing a mix of housing, and adjacent retail of
essential products and services—thereby reducing trips by car.
It could be a useful and beautiful project.
Office space does not accomplish that goal. It removes the prospect of that possibility by removing that land off of
our inventory, now, and likely for years to come.
Whose needs would this project serve?
The answer to that question is a very important criteria in any final resolution.
Sincerely,
Julie Pardini
