6.C. - Page 1 of 43 <br />/<;i-ik <br />Redwood <br />CitylCallifornia <br />wended 1967 <br />\now <br />DATE: February 8, 2021 <br />SUBJECT <br />STAFF REPORT <br />To the Honorable Mayor and City Council <br />From the City Manager <br />Purchase of public meeting room furniture for three Redwood City Public Library locations to increase <br />accessibility, ease of cleaning and sanitation, ergonomics, and flexibility in room arrangements <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />By motion, approve and authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement to purchase 323 task chairs <br />and 57 nesting flip -top tables in the amount of $154,597 from Ross McDonald, Inc. <br />STRATEGIC PLAN GUIDING PRINCIPLE <br />Excellence in Government Operations <br />BACKGROUND <br />Library community meeting rooms provide spaces for Library events, public meetings hosted by other City <br />departments or other government entities, and meetings hosted by nonprofit community groups. Prior <br />to the COVID-19 pandemic when City facilities temporarily closed to the public, Library meeting rooms <br />were utilized over 1,100 times per year. While social distancing is likely to be practiced for the foreseeable <br />future, the Library and its meeting rooms will once again serve as a community gathering space once it is <br />safe to do so. <br />The furniture in Library meeting spaces at the Downtown Library and the Redwood Shores Branch Library <br />ranges in age from 12 years old at Redwood Shores to over 30 years old at the Downtown Library. While <br />the Schaberg Branch Library does not contain any public meeting spaces, this project also includes <br />replacement of a small number of worn chairs used for public seating at computers and tables in the <br />branch.
