These inspectors regularly inspect the City's capital improvement projects
and utility permit projects performed by private utility companies. While regular City employees provide
most City services, the City occasionally contracts with outside firms to provide specialized expertise or to
provide additional capacity during peak work periods and times when employees are on extended leaves.
The Engineering Division is experiencing a high workload that requires contract engineering inspection
support. The proposed amendment to the existing contract will provide that support. The Department
will continue to evaluate the most effective mix of staffing and external support to provide the needed
expertise and capacity for inspection services.
City of Redwood City 1017 Middlefield Road, Redwood City, CA. 94063 Tel: 650-780-7000 www.redwoodcity.org
5
