<br />8A <br />Page 2 <br /> <br />'legislative Action Days' Continued from Page 1.... <br /> <br />Legislative Action Days are designed so that city officials can Ieam about the latest on issues <br />such as the budget, climate change regulatory efforts and legislation, infrastructure bond <br />implementation, land use, and other key legislation. Legislative Action Days are also a prime <br />opportunity for city offICials to meet with state legislators to deliver the message of the importance <br />of preserving local services. <br /> <br />Schedule <br /> <br />VVednesday, April 16 <br /> <br />General session: 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Sacramento Convention Center, Rooms 306/307 <br /> <br />The League has asked all of the speakers to address state budget issues because of the <br />importance to cities. In addition, the speakers will also discuss other significant matters related to <br />their positions. <br /> <br />. Assembly Member Karen Bass, Speaker-Elect of the Assembly (D-Los Angeles), will <br />discuss the issue areas she hopes to impact as the future Assembly Speaker; <br /> <br />. Assembly Member Anna Caballero, chair, Assembly Local Government Committee (0- <br />Salinas), will discuss the major legislative issues affecting local government; <br /> <br />. Senator Dave Cogdill (R-Fresno), Senate Republican Leader-Elect (his first day is April <br />15), will discuss his goals and objectives as the new Senate Republican Leader and <br />water supply issues; <br /> <br />. Mike Genest. director, Department of Finance, will address the state budget; <br /> <br />. Senator Alan Lowenthal, chair, Senate Transportation and Housing Committee (D-Long <br />Beach), will address pending infrastructure bond implementation actions and goods <br />movement; and <br /> <br />. Senator Alex Padilla (D-Los Angeles) will discuss the main policy areas Senate <br />Democrats want to impact this session as well as how his experience on the Los Angeles <br />City Council has benefited his tenure in the Senate. <br /> <br />Gov. This session is an opportunity to discuss the meetings as well as <br />hear updates on relevant issues with time for Q and A. <br /> <br />Leaislative ReceDtion: 5:30-7 p.m., Sheraton Grand Sacramento, Camellia and Gardenia <br />Rooms <br /> <br />Invite your legislator to join you and your colleagues at this special legislative reception. <br />"Building Sustainable Communities" is the reception's theme. This theme provides the framework <br />for the League's 2008 strategic priorities. The event will reinforce how protection of local <br />revenues, effective allocation of infrastructure bonds, maintaining local flexibility on local <br />greenhouse gas reduction strategies, and enacting honest eminent domain reform are vital to the <br />success of California's 478 cities. <br /> <br />2 <br />
