In the case of any premises where there is water or substance tt�at would <br /> be objectionable but no# hazardous to health, if introduced into the public <br /> water system, the pubfic water system sha11 be protec#ed by an approved <br /> doubfe check valve assembly. <br /> 3. In the case of any premises where, in the opinion of the Director, an <br /> undue health threat is posed because of the presence of extremely taxic <br /> substances, the Director may require an air gap at the service connection <br /> to protect the pubiic water system. This requirement will be at the <br /> discretion of the Director and is dependent of the degree of hazard. <br /> Sec. 38.39 Installation of Backflow Prevention Assemblies: <br /> A. Where Backflow Prevention Assembly Are Required <br /> In addition to the requirements of Articfe Vii (Piumbing Cade) of Chap#er 9 of this <br /> Code and a!i amendments thereto, an approved backflow prevention assembly <br /> shall be installed on each service line to a customer-user's water system at or as <br /> near possibEe the #erminal end of the service connec#ion from the City water <br /> system or immediately inside the building being served; but in a!I cases, before <br /> the first branch fine ieading off the service line. <br /> B. Installation and Permits <br /> Every bacicflow prevention assembly installed for the purpase of eliminating a <br /> cross-connection shall be so installed with all applicable City permits, �n <br /> accordance with City standards, and at a location approved by the Director. The <br /> approval required hereunder st►ail be in addition to all applicable requirements of <br /> Title 17 of the Califomia Administrative Code and Articie VII (Plumbing Code) of <br /> Chapter 9 of this Code and all amendments #hereto. <br /> Section 38.40 Testing of Backflow Prevention Assemblies; <br /> A. Customer-User Responsibilities: The customer-user shall have the following <br /> responsibilities <br /> 9. Testing: It shali be the duty of ths customer-user at any premises where <br /> backfiow prevention assemblies are instal(ed to have certified inspections <br /> and operational tests made immediately upon the installation, repair or <br /> relocation of such assembly and at least once per year thereafter. <br /> ATTY/ORDlORD.308 <br /> Q41 fi0$ 6 <br />
