<br />5.38 <br />'I Page 1 <br />REPORT <br /> <br />To the Honorable Mayor and Ci:ty Council and I <br />The Redevelopment Agency Board ! <br />From Council Member Jeff Ira, Chair, Personnel Subcommittee <br /> <br />June 9, 2008 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Resolution approving the appointment of the City Manager & Executing Employment <br />Agreement & motion to appoint City Manager as Executive Director of the Redevelopment <br />Agency. <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />CITY COUNCIL <br />1. Approve resolution authorizing the execution of employment agreement for the <br />position of City Manager with Peter Ingram. <br />2. By resolution appoint Peter Ingram as the City Manager ofthe City of Redwood City. <br /> <br />REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD <br />1. Approve by resolution, appointment of Peter Ingram as Executive Director of the <br />Redevelopment Agency. <br />2. Authorize Chairperson of the Redevelopment Agency to execute letter confirming <br />Peter Ingram as the Redevelopment Agency Executive Director. <br />3. Amend Section 5 of the By Laws of the Redevelopment Agency to make the City <br />Manager the Redevelopment Agency Executive Director. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />In May 2007, the former City Manager, Ed Everett, announced his intentions to retire in <br />November 2007. With approval from the City Council, the Human Resources department <br />began working with executive search firms to recruit for a new City Manager. After <br />reviewing qualifications of forty-four applicants and conducting interviews with ten highly <br />qualified candidates, the City Council has offered the position to Peter Ingram, the current <br />Interim City Manager and former Director of Community Development Services and Public <br />Works. <br /> <br />During the recruitment process, the entire City Council interviewed candidates. Though the <br />council was very impressed with the caliber of candidates, Mr. Ingram's skills, qualifications <br />and commitment to the Redwood City community and organization demonstrated he was <br />the best candidate for the position of City Manager. Mr. Ingram's experience and <br />leadership skills will enable the Council and organization to continue to work together to <br />build and serve the Redwood City community. <br /> <br />The Council's Personnel Sub-Committee enthusiastically endorses the selection of Mr. <br />Ingram and recommends that the Council approve the attached Employment Agreement <br />as well as related resolutions, authorizing the Mayor to sign same on behalf of the City. <br />The principal features of the Employment Agreement are: <br /> <br />Mr. Ingram will begin as the regular City Manager effective June 10, 2008.
