BACKGROUND On May 1, 2008, staff advertised the subject contract and notified previous bidders the contract documents and specifications were available for their review and purchase. The proposed contract has been duly advertised and four sealed bids were received and opened at the Maps and Records desk in City Hall on May 21, 2008. Median $780,137 Recommended Bidder: Spencon Construction, Inc. Substantiation: Lowest Responsible Bid The project focuses on making long term repairs to damaged sidewalk, sidewalk through driveway, driveway approaches, curb and gutter at all locations meeting a one- inch defect or greater, and constructs wheel chair ramps at all corners in the project area. The work will be performed in the remaining sites in Area A 1, the Woodside Plaza neighborhood, and work will be performed at sites in Area A2 on Granger Way, Mitchell Way, Sterling Way, Goodwin Ave and Alameda de las Pulgas. Work will be scheduled to avoid disrupting traffic flow to and from Adelante School. Staff has concluded that all of the work scope in Areas A1 and A2 can be completed prior to June 30, 2009. If funding is stilt available when work is completed in Area A2, work may begin in Area B 1, the Sequoia Hospital neighborhood. Staff recently modified the sidewalk replacement program to accommodate a "Do the Worst First" approach. This method will address the sidewalks in the City that are in the worst condition right now. After inspecting the sidewalks in the Granger Way area, it has been determined these sidewalks will be addressed first.
