<br />8. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> <br />A. Legislation (information only) - This sub-section involves possible discussion of <br />City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of California Cities <br />Priority Focus Bulletin No. 10-2008 and 11-2008. Council may direct staff to act on <br />positions taken by Council. (Copies of League of California Cities Priority Focus <br />available in City Clerk's Department). <br /> <br />B. New General Plan Monthly Status Progress - Mayor Foust (Informational Staff <br />Report). <br /> <br />Mayor Foust referred to the written report, and announced upcoming monthly update <br />that will be provided on a rotational basis format with each Council member reporting <br />out. Mayor Foust explained the recent meetings and events that have taken place and <br />that the project is on schedule. <br /> <br />C. Council Reports on Committee Meetings Attended. <br /> <br />2. Council Member Hartnett - (taken out of sequence). Council Member Hartnett <br />provided details on the recent work of the Joint Powers Board of the Life <br />Support and how this organization has a goal to eliminate the boundaries <br />between fire and medical calls in San Mateo County. He announced that there <br />is a Request for Proposal for a new contract and it has been restructured based <br />on input from members of this Board. <br /> <br />1. Council Member Aguirre - Reported on a recent C/CAG 2020 Policy Advisory <br />Committee and how this body has come up with a draft list of accomplishments. <br />She outlined some of the options before this committee and the exciting <br />proposals that are to be decided upon. She also attended the Bay Area Water <br />Forum and she referred to the 2009 California Water Plan. She also served on <br />the Chamber Education Committee and she recognized the work that is being <br />done by AmeriCorps in this community. Council Member Aguirre reiterated <br />some of the issues addressed at a recent Land Use Committee meeting. She <br />announced that the Chambers Leadership Committee is planning for the <br />graduation event in June. <br /> <br />3. Council Member Pierce -Reported on attending an Economic Development and <br />a Bay Area Water Forum. She talked about social mobility and regional and <br />global competition and how education can be a magnet to attract people to this <br />community. She also attended the High Speed Rail presentation at the <br />Chamber of Commerce and a multi-modal station that is planned for San <br />Francisco. This topic will be on the November 2008 ballot. She spoke about the <br />last Forum at the Fox Theatre and how the speaker had great knowledge to <br />share.
