6.1C
inspection. Since the demand on storm pump stations operation is seasonal (wet season), the Page 2
summer months are best for completing and scheduling maintenance and repairs.

The single bidder, Pump Repair Service Company is able to provide the full scope of services
for the several different types of pumps in our storm utility system. Pump Repair Service
Company has provided this service to Redwood City for more than 30 years. Further, the
company services pump for several other Bay Area agencies, including Daly City, City of San
Jose. and Marin Municipal Water District. In the past three years, the City has received a single
proposal. Over the past several years, the City has consistently received only one bid for these
services. The concern expressed by one potential vendor was that they did not believe their
firm could meet the City's requested repair schedule or the one-hour emergency response time
requirement.

ALTERNATIVES
Direct staff to solicit individual bids, on an as-needed basis; however, this could place the City in
a vulnerable position if one of these pumps fails. Repair and reconditioning of pumps is critical
and delay due to the time involved to solicit bids puts the City at risk.

Direct staff to solicit additional vendors from a broader geographical area; however, proximity to
the City is important to the ability of the vendor to render timely repair and service to the pumps
for the same crucial vulnerability issues identified in #1 above.

FISCAL IMPACT
The amount of $205,000, for these services, is contained in the Public Works Services
proposed Fiscal Year 2008-09 operating budget.

Marilyn Har ' g
Public Works superintenden
/'
.../

Peter Ingram
City Manager

ATTACHMENTS
None

RELATED DOCUMENTS IN CITY CLERK'S OFFICE
None
