<br />6.1A <br />Page 34 <br /> <br />New employees on probation who are off work for more than 30 work days shall <br />have their probationary period extended by the same amount of time as the <br />work absence. <br /> <br />During the first six (6) months of his or her probationary period, an employee <br />may be required to pass physical agility and endurance tests, written <br />examinations, and other job related subjects. During the last twelve (12) <br />months of the probationary period, an employee may be required to pass <br />periodical written examinations pertaining to all phases of the employee's <br />work. At the conclusion of the probationary period, an employee may be <br />required to pass a written examination and performance test. <br /> <br />A probationary employee shall have the opportunity to read and discuss his or <br />her monthly performance report with his or her supervisor before such report <br />becomes part of the employee's employment record. <br /> <br />An employee may be separated from the City service at any time during the <br />probationary period without right of appeal or hearing. <br /> <br />Any employee appointed to the classification of Police Officer Trainee shall be <br />considered in a training status during the probationary period. A Police Officer <br /> <br />Trainee who has not completed the required basic P.O.S.T training academy <br />shall be considered a local miscellaneous retirement employee for all purposes <br />and will only be considered a safety retirement member on the first (1st) day <br />he or she is assigned to regular police duties. <br /> <br />11 .2 Promoted Emplovees <br /> <br />All promotional appointments shall be tentative and subject to a probationary <br />period of twelve (12) months of service from the date of appointment. During <br />the probationary period an employee may be rejected at any time by the City <br />Manager upon recommendation of the Police Chief. Any regular employee <br />rejected during the probationary period following a promotional appointment <br />shall be reinstated to the position from which he or she was promoted unless <br />conditions warrant his or her dismissal. <br /> <br />Upon satisfactory completion of such probationary period, the employee shall <br />be appointed to a regular full-time position in that classification. <br /> <br />SECTION 12. PROMOTION <br /> <br />12.1 Examination <br /> <br />In the event the City desires to fill a vacancy by promotion, the Personnel <br />Officer shall prepare and administer an examination for those employees <br />holding similar positions in lower classes. <br /> <br />28 <br />
