Martin Partian, President of the Canada College Senate, spoke about the benefits of <br /> this project. Secondly, he said that this is one of the larger employers in the County <br /> and so he is looking for support for the project because of its benefits. <br /> Michael Murphy, County Counsel representing the Community College District, thanked <br /> Redwood City staff for being responsive and thorough. He said that the issue of Lead <br /> Agency is a non-issue, and he provided information on the matter. Regarding the <br /> environmental review he explained that it was designed to cover all approvals and it <br /> was done by a firm that is an expert in the area. He explained that the CEQA (California <br /> Environmental Quality Act) review covers all the impacts of this project. Mr. Murphy <br /> stated he had reviewed the letter presented today and nothing new had been added. <br /> Mark Molton, Board Member of Housing Leadership Council, offered his support to this <br /> project. He believes this is a great opportunity for communities to come together to <br /> make a difference in a college campus. He said this is a way to support our children <br /> and future generations. He was pleased with the multi jurisdictional approach. <br /> Karen Schwarz, elected Trustee for the Community College District, and also serving as <br /> the President of the Housing Corporation for the College of San Mateo Cotlege Vista, <br /> said she supports the project. She provided details on the College Vista program, and <br /> she is pleased with the partnerships and spoke about how the project has improved. <br /> Leonor Cabrera, spoke about how hard it is to cover the costs of rising rents in San <br /> Mateo County. While she works #or the San Mateo Community District she said she <br /> may have to go back to the private sector due to housing costs. She asked Council to <br /> approve this project. <br /> Lennie (Leonor) Roberts, on behalf of the committee for Green Foothills and its Board, <br /> offered support for this project. Ms. Roberts said that usually the committee does not <br /> get involved in particular projects but this one is so important that they decided to take a <br /> stand. She commended the project and asked for Council approval. <br /> Thomas Mohr, with the San Mateo Community College District, said that this is a <br /> unique opportunity and many times when he is interviewing candidates, they will not <br /> take the position because they say they can't afford to live here. He believes the quality <br /> of a college is contingent on the quality of the people who teach there. He thanked the <br /> Council and the staff for the hard work. <br /> Janet Borgens, speaking as a resident (not a Planning Commissioner), offered her <br /> support to this project and spoke about its benefits. Ms. Borgens provided historical <br /> information on Woodhill Estates and how neighbors from Eden Bauer Lane originally <br /> had challenges with it. She believes this is a positive project and in her opinion there is <br /> no substantiated objection to it. <br /> JoAnn Kemist, said she valued the open forum and dialogue that has occurred Mere <br /> and she believes this is an elegant housing project and a win-win situation. She opined <br /> that the problem is that teachers are unable to live in this community.
