The Human Resources department is responsible for evaluating these
requests and conducting campensation and classification comparisons and analyses.
Outlined below are fwo requests requiring City Council review and approval. Staff has
met with the respective Unions on the job classifications and received agreement
regarding the revised job specifications.
New Classifications— Librarv Services
Over the years, the usage of computers at the library has increased, resulting in more
computers and technological upgrades being added to the library, These changes Iave
significantly impacted business practices and created the need for additional staff to
ensure the proper maintenance of equipment and the implementation of new and
existing programs with the Library Departmen#. In order to address this need, Dave
Genesy, Library Director, initiaiy assigned a Library Assistant II to provide prf-time
teehnology support for fhe Libraries' information system. Gradually, the position evolved
to providing technologica! support an a fuil time basis. Based on an analysis of the
duties perFormed by the incumbent, it was determined that the technology support
duties performed by the incumben# are outside the scope of the current cfass of Library
Assistant II and a recfassification was recommended.
1. L.ibrary Information Technofogy Technician
As there are no existing Redwoad City classifications that appropriately reflecf the
duties perFormed by the incumbent a new classification of Library Informafiion
Technoiogy Technician is being recommended. It will be covered by the the Service
Empfoyees International Union {SEIU), Locaf 521 bargaining unit. A comparison survey
and an internal analysis provided the basis for the proposed salary range of $4,765 -
$5,792 per month. The current incum6ent performing these duties wi(i be reciassified
into the position. The City and SEIU have met and agreed on the position and
reclassification subject to council approval. The Library has current funding for this
reclassification. A copy of the new job description is included as Attachment 1.
