6.3C Page 8 Grace le, Redwood City Redwood Shores Levee Proposal Oct October 7. 2008 Page 2 ~~ta'4 1.1 Klck-Off Meeting Prior to initiating any work on the project. we will coordinate a project kickoff meeting between our team and City staff to outline our strategy and timeline, and discuss Individual deliverables described in the following tasks. 1.2 Review Data & Reports We understand that a signif icant amount of data and engineering reports have been generated from the various developments authorized by the City on the Redwood Shores peninsula. We will obtain copies of these reports for review, which we understand currently reside with the City. The following data/reports will be reviewed: . Topographic surveys and as-built drawings ofthe levees to identify potential areas of concern; . Operations and Maintenance manuals and plans submitted by the City to FEMA recerrtiy; . Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) & prior FEMA studies and reports to understand the criteria used in the prior certification process 1.3 Conduct Visual Reconnaissance Survey The project team in conjunction with City staff will conduct a thorough on-site levee inspection, taking photos of the levee and recording the conditions and ty pes of erosion protection and other facilities found on the shoreline. Photographs and field notes for the visual reconnaissance will be documented. The shoreline will be divided into several segments in order to identify features along the shoreline and distinguish them from other segments. This inspection will involve establishing a station line to reference field notes and photographs, and walking the length of the levee within the City's boundary. The focus of this inspection will be to document evidence of possible settlement issues, instability, erosion, slumping, and burrowing animal activity. 1.4 Perform Topographic Survey As part of the Existing Conditions Assessment, a survey of the crest of the levee will be conducted, to establish the current height of the levee and to aHow for future comparisons to establish settlement rates. The survey results will be presented in CAD. Where feasible, nail and shiner survey markers will be set to allow repeat survey of points. The results of the survey will be needed during future project phases to determine available freeboard. BKF will utilize Real Time Kinematic GPS equipment to survey the levee crest which is accurate to 0.1 foot in the vertical. Survey points will be taken at 200-foot spacing along the levee crest. A total of 8 cross sections will also be taken using GPS equipment. The Bayside points will be as far as practical towards the sloughs, based on water level and accessibility .
