2. San Mateo County Jail Site.
Public Comment
Nancy Radcliffe, from the "No Additional Jails Coalition", stated that the Board of the
Chamber of Commerce agreed with her position regarding no further jails being needed in
Redwood City, although they are in support of rebuilding the women's facility as long as it
does not increase in bed size. She hoped the Board of Supervisors would consider all
counties on an equal basis in their search for a new location.
Mayor Foust asked for Council support on scheduling a meeting with Board President
Adrian Tessier and Vice Mayor Howard and the City Manager to look at options. There was
Council consensus for such meeting to be scheduled and that the Mayor send a second
letter. Council agreed, and repeated it does not object to rebuilding the women's facility
within already specified parameters. The Mayor stated it would be helpful to involve County
Supervisors in the dialogue and Council suggested a town hall type meeting as well as
having Council look into the sherrifs' needs.
D.
