M/S Vice Mayor Howard/Pierce to close the public hearing. The motion was carried by <br /> unanimous voice vote with two Council Members absent (Aguirre and Ira). <br /> M/S Vice Mayor Howard/Bain to approve a resolution adopting the Fiscal Year 2008/09 <br /> budget. The motion passed by unanimous roll call vote with Council Members <br /> Aguirre and Ira absent. <br /> 9. MATTERS OF COUNCIL INTEREST <br /> A. Legislation (information only) - This sub-section involves possible discussion of <br /> City Position on Proposed Legislation described in the League of California Cities <br /> Priority Focus Bulletin No. 26-2008 and 27-2008. Council may direct staff to act on <br /> positions taken by Council. (Copies of League of California Cities Priority Focus <br /> available in City Clerk's Department). <br /> B. Ongoing Matters <br /> 1. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) — Redwood Shores Levees. <br /> City Manager Ingram reported nothing new since the last report, but a third wave of <br /> meetings was due to start and this information would be brought back at the next <br /> meeting or two. <br /> Vice Mayor Howard mentioned the League of Cities encouraged support for <br /> Assembly Bill 31, a bill that allocates Prop 84 funds for competitive grants for park- <br /> poor communities. Council concurred with sending a letter of support. <br /> 2. San Mateo County Jail Site. <br /> Public Comment <br /> Pat Dixon spoke on Redwood City being the county center. She stated if there was <br /> a need for a new County Jail it should go on top of the County parking lot, as an <br /> option, and keep this within the County's center, within Redwood City. She states <br /> there is no need to put it in another city. <br /> The Mayor asked to forego Item "C" at this time due to the late hour. <br /> M/S Pierce/Howard to extend the meeting until 11:15 p.m. Motion carries by voice vote <br /> with two Council Members absent (Aguirre and Ira). <br /> C. Council Reports on Committee Meetings Attended. <br /> 1. Council Member Aguirre <br /> 2. Council Member Hartnett <br /> 3. Council Member Pierce left packet on high speed rail. <br /> D.
