<br />6.18 <br />Page 1 <br /> <br />REPORT <br /> <br /> <br />December 15, 2008 <br /> <br />SUBJECT <br />Award of Contract - Hoover Park Renovation Project <br /> <br />RECOMMENDATION <br />Approve, by motion, the contract documents and award the contract for the Hoover Park <br />Renovation Project to the lowest responsible and responsive bidder, Joseph J. <br />Albanese, Inc. of Santa Clara, for their responsive and responsible low base bid of <br />$485,272.00 and authorize the City Manager to increase the contract amount up to 10% <br />of the amount awarded if necessary. <br /> <br />BACKGROUND <br />The renovation of certain park facilities and the replacement of the existing restrooms <br />are proposed for Hoover Park. Staff requests Council consideration of the contract for <br />the restroom replacement portion of the work via a separate companion report. <br /> <br />This project is part of the ongoing renovation effort to keep our park system functional <br />and attractive. Some of the facilities in Hoover Park are in need of updating or <br />replacing. This project will replace the outdated handball court with a basketball court. <br />Playground equipment that is no longer compliant with playground equipment standards <br />will be replaced. Some walkway areas will be widened and resurfaced to provide <br />improved access for maintenance vehicles. Improvements will also be made to the <br />lighting and the entrance of the Boys and Girls Club. <br /> <br />Six (6) bids were received at the bid opening on November 19, 2008 and are <br />summarized below. <br /> <br /> Bidder Bid Amount <br />ESR Construction, Inc. $484 100.00 <br />Jos.
