<br />B. Carboxvlated Polvmer Latex. Poly-chloroprene-methacrylic acid latex with <br />polyvinyl alcohol shall be added to the water/soap phase prior to the mill <br />manufacture of the emulsified asphalt by the emulsion producer. The amount of <br />latex shall be between 2 and 3 percent of the asphalt residual content. Samples <br />shall be provided and shall conform to the following requirements: <br /> <br />Test Reauirement <br />Total solids, min. % 47 <br />Averaqe particles size um (micron) 0.3 <br />PH at 25 deqrees C 7 <br />Brookfield viscositv at 25 deQrees C 350 - 500 <br />Mechanical stability, min. 650 <br /> <br />C. Water and Additives. Water shall be of such quality that the asphalt will not <br />separate from the emulsion before the slurry seal is in place in the work. <br /> <br />D. Aaareaate. Aggregate shall consist of sound, durable, crushed gravel and <br />approved mineral filler. The material shall be free from vegetable matter and <br />other deleterious substances. Aggregates shall be 100% crushed with no round <br />particles, volcanic in origin and black in color. The percentage composition by <br />weight of the aggregates shall conform to the following grading. <br /> <br />PERCENTAGE PASSING <br /> <br />Sieve Size % Passina Type II <br />No. 3/8" 100 <br />No.4 94 - 100 <br />No.8 65 - 90 <br />No. 16 40 - 70 <br />No. 30 25 - 50 <br />No. 200 5 - 15 <br /> <br />Theoretical asphalt content range, % dry aggregate 13 - 18 <br />Approximate application rate (pounds per square yard) 14 - 16 <br />The aggregate shall conform to the following additional quality requirements: <br /> <br />Test California Test Reauirements <br /> TVDe II <br />Sand Equivalent 217 60 minimum <br />Durability Index fine 229 55 minimum <br /> <br />If the results of the aggregate grading do not meet the graduation specified, the <br />slurry seal represented by such test shall be removed. However, if requested in <br />writing by the Contractor and approved by the Engineer, the slurry seal may remain <br />in place and the Contractor shall pay to the City $1.75 per ton for such aggregate <br />left in place. <br /> <br />SLURRY SEAL <br /> <br />02540-2 <br />
