<br />Open fireplaces shall have arched heads, whicll shall whenever possible, <br /> <br />extend to the back of the tile or marble facing. <br />Patent Fireplaces. <br />All fireplaces conne cted with patent chLllneys and all gas loss must be <br />set on iron plates, not less than t inch in thickness and not less than <br />3 feet 9 inches in length by 3 feet in width, which shall be free from all <br /> <br />holes. Boards shall not be placed under the iron plates which must rest on <br /> <br />the floor joists. On the top of the iron plates t~ere shall be one inch Of <br />conxete or cement, then a course of brick, follo~ed by the tiliw~ or marbl e. <br /> <br />The strength of the floer must not be impaired by cutting out for the <br />fireplace. In lieu of restins on the floor joists said iron plates ruay be <br />suspended by wrought iron stirrups of sufficient length to sustain the <br /> <br />fireplace and patent chimney. <br /> <br />The brick jambs .of every fireplace or grate openins shall be at least <br /> <br />8 inches ~lide, and the backs shall not be less than 8 inches thick, and <br /> <br />where fireplaces come over one another on separate floors, the jamb of the <br /> <br />lower fireplace shall be wide enough to carry the patent ohimney far <br /> <br />enough to one side of the jamb above so that the patent chimnoy vTil1 pass <br /> <br />the upper fireplace in as strai6~-lt a line as possible. rIhere bends are <br />neoessary in patent ohimney,offsets shall be used.
