<br />Award of Contract - Master Water Meter Replacement Project (Boardwalk Subdivision)

<br />RECOMMENDATION
<br />Approve, by motion, the contract documents and award the contract for construction of
<br />the Master Water Meter Replacement Project (Boardwalk Subdivision) to the lowest
<br />responsible bidder, Ashlin Pacific Construction, Inc. of Petaluma for their responsive
<br />and responsible low bid of $86,900.00 and authorize the City Manager to increase the
<br />contract amount up to 10% if necessary.
<br />
<br />BACKGROUND
<br />The master water meters for the Boardwalk Subdivision were installed as part of the
<br />original development more than 20 years ago. The meters are part of the public
<br />distribution system and are owned and maintained by the city. The four meters have
<br />outlived their useful life and are outdated to the extent that services to calibrate,
<br />maintain, and repair the equipment can no longer be secured.
<br />
<br />The proposed project will replace a total of four six-inch detector water meters. The new
<br />meters will be supplied by Compact Fireline, Inc., similar to other units recently
<br />purchased by the City. Standardizing equipment throughout the city makes repair and
<br />maintenance more efficient, economical, and reliable.
<br />
<br />For each meter replaced, the work will consist of removing the existing concrete vault,
<br />water meter, piping and appurtenances; installing a new concrete vault, master detector
<br />meter, piping and other appurtenances; installing one new retaining wall; and restoring
<br />all pavement and landscaping disturbed as a result of the work.
