Denise Lewis, a resident of Redwood City and Vice President of the Redwood Shores Library Foundation, stated that they had a gala event to honor major donors last Friday. She complimented and thanked Norcal Waste for their contributions and support. She stated her belief that Norcal Waste System is focused on recycling and thanked them and she recommended them as the new collection service for Redwood City. Nancy Radcliffe stated that CityTrees is celebrating the planting of their 2000` tree and she invited the community to a tree planting on National Neighborhood Day, Sunday, September 21 It will be a 20 foot valley oak to be planted at Stafford Park starting at 1 p.m. Sally Edwards stated that she supports agenda item 6.3. She said that she has been trying to subdivide her property, but it has not been approved yet, and that she gets letters from the County and the City about needing approvals from various agencies. She spoke in detail about what she has had to pay and do to lay in pipes and she said she would like some help. Mayor Foust asked the City Manager, along with Engineering staff, to follow up on this issue noting that there are some areas that the City has no jurisdiction over. Janet Borgens invited the public to a Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) sponsored blood drive on the last day of their training on Saturday, September 27th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bloodmobile at the Community Activities Building at 1400 Roosevelt, Redwood City. She said people can make an appointment online at blood heroes and that children can come with parents. Keith Kadera, a resident of Redwood City and the current director of Hometown Holidays, which is the Christmas event held every year and this year on December 6, 2008, said Norcal Waste has donated time and effort during the last three years to streamline, plan, and clean up after ten thousand people attending downtown events. He spoke on behalf of Norcal Waste and stated his encouragement that the City look at Norcal Waste's efforts in positive light.
