<br />7 . STAFF REPORTS <br />A. Traffic Calming Measures and New Stop Sign on McGarvey Avenue. <br /> <br />Recommendation: <br />1) Approve, by motion, installation of temporary traffic calming devices for a <br />six month trial period to include a) speed tables on McGarvey Avenue <br />between Farm Hill Boulevard and Alameda de las Pulgas and, b) a traffic <br />circle at McGarvey Avenue/Chesterton Avenue (east). <br />Minute Order 08-205 <br /> <br />2) Approve, by resolution, installation of permanent stop signs at McGarvey <br />Avenue/Euclid Avenue. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 14905 OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY ESTABLISHING AND <br />DECLARING THE MCGARVEY AVENUE ENTRANCES TO THE INTERSECTION OF <br />MCGARVEY AVENUE AND EUCLID AVENUE TO BE STOP ENTRANCES <br /> <br />Public Comment <br />Kathy Schrenk supports what is before Council tonight. She thanked the Council and prior <br />City Manager Everett for all the efforts to get this matter resolved. She believes the <br />young children that live in the area will benefit greatly from these measures. <br /> <br />Paul Hoekenga spoke about the process and how grateful he is about Council's <br />responsiveness. He shared his own personal experience with traffic in the area and how <br />he believes these temporary measures will work. <br /> <br />Howard Smith thanked City staff for all the efforts to address this problem. He referred to <br />a petition that he circulated in the neighborhood. Mr. Smith said that he supports these <br />measures because they are part of a comprehensive plan; however, his support of the <br />Euclid stop sign conditional on making other measures permanent at a later time. <br /> <br />Doran Donnelly thanked the Mayor and the Council for their efforts. He spoke about his <br />children being impacted as well as the neighborhood in general. He supports all four <br />proposed measures and found the community engagement process positive. <br /> <br />Steve Raak shared his experience driving on McGarvey. He favors the temporary <br />measures but he is not certain the stop sign will work since there are many others nearby. <br /> <br />Peter Vorametsanti, Acting Manager of Engineering and Construction, presented the <br />report (presentation on file). He explained the public process to date and the benefits of <br />these measures. <br /> <br />Council asked questions about speed and staff explained the speed tables. One Council <br />Member appreciated the comprehensive solution and another thanked staff and the <br />residents for their commitment to finding successful resolutions. One Council Member <br />suggested that this approach, as well as the compromise reached, be replicated in other <br />areas or projects.
