City of Redwood City
February 6, 2009 (Proposal No. 09.027)

In accordance with the applicable permit requirements, all exploration points will be
backfilled with a lean cement grout mix. Backfill of the borings will be sequenced such that
stabilized groundwater measurements can be obtained from the completed borings prior to
backfilling. Drilling spoils will be drummed, labeled, and disposed, most likely as non-hazardous
waste. It is assumed that drummed waste will be stored onsite pending disposal.

LABORATORY TESTING

Soil samples collected in the field will be transported to our laboratory for classification
and samples will be selected for geotechnical laboratory testing. Laboratory tests will consist of
the following, as determined to be appropriate:

. Classification and Index Tests such as sieve analysis and Atterberg limits
determinations;

. Moisture content and dry density determinations to aid in the qualitative evaluation of
the soil types encountered, their strength characteristics, and for our evaluation of
the undocumented fill soils at the previous basement area;

. Triaxial or direct shear strength tests to measure in-place shear strength of cohesive
or cohesion less samples, respectively, and

. Up to two laboratory compaction tests for baseline compaction curves of the
undocumented fill soils.

GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING ANALYSES AND REPORT PREPARATION

Based on the results of our data review, subsurface exploration, and laboratory testing,
we will perform engineering analyses to develop conclusions and recommendations regarding
the geotechnical aspects of the project. We will summarize our findings in a geotechnical study
report that will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following information:

. Site Plan, showing exploration locations, fill thickness, and material layers
encountered;

. Logs of the exploratory borings;

. Laboratory test results;

. Description of general site conditions and physical properties and characteristics of
the subsurface soils, including index properties and groundwater level and possible
seasonal variations in the level;

. Identification and evaluation of extent of fill, and compressible and expansive soils, if
encountered;

. Briefly summarize the project site geology;

. Provide 2007 CBC seismic design parameters, including CBC Site Class Type, and
near source factors;

G.\PROPOSED WORK\2009\09027.fjl1 HELLER ST, REDWOOD CITYlGEOTECHIPROPOSAL GEO.fjFEB09DOC 3
