City of Redwood City February 6, 2009 (Proposal No. 09.027) . A discussion of geotechnical factors that may impact development of new construction, such as undocumented fills, loose surficial soils, expansive soils, shallow groundwater, and otherwise unsuitable supporting soils; . An evaluation of the backfilled soils of the previous basement area; . A discussion of liquefaction potential and the effects of liquefaction on foundation and site work design, if significant liquefaction or dynamic densification settlement is found likely to occur; . Recommendations for site earthwork, including suitability of onsite materials as fill, fill placement and compaction requirements, reuse of onsite materials as engineered fill, site preparation and grading, subgrade preparation, excavation, temporary slopes; . Foundation design recommendations for the recommended foundation systems, including supporting capacities, size and embedment recommendations, and lateral capacities to support building structures, retaining walls and other site improvements (e.g., passive pressures and coefficient of sliding friction); . Develop estimated total and differential settlements for the recommended foundation systems; . Slab-on-grade design considerations, including use of moisture retarders or barriers, additional slab reinforcement, and underlying non-expansive or engineered fill requirements, as appropriate; . Recommendations for foundation, slab-on-grade, and site improvement design for expansive soil conditions, as appropriate; and . Recommendations for surface and subsurface water drainage. A total of six hard copies of the report, as well as a PDF copy, will be submitted to the City. Draft copies of the reports are not proposed as part of the current proposed scope of work, but if requested, a progress memorandum can be prepared prior to completion of the report to present our structural foundation design recommendations, if applicable, as soon as they are developed. FEE ESTIMATE We will perform our services on a time and materials basis for a fee of $11,900, based on the specific work scope outlined above. This total figure was derived based on the required tasks and corresponding estimated task costs shown on the table below, and based on the attached Northern California 2009 Fee Schedule for Consulting Services.
