Recommendation:
1. Adopt a resolution reciting the facts of the Special Consolidated Election
held on November 4, 2008 and declaring the results and such other matters
as provided by law. (307)
RESOLUTION NO. 14912 OF THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF REDWOOD CITY,
RECITING THE FACTS OF THE SPECIAL ELECTION CONSOLIDATED WITH THE
GENERAL PREStDENTIAL ELECTION HELD ON NOVEMBER 4, 2008 DECLARING
THE RESULTS AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS PROVIDED BY LAW
M/S Hartnett/Pierce to adopt the resolution certifying the election results.
Mayor Foust asked that the Council create a means by which the various community
stakeholders address the future of the Cargill Lands. The Mayor also made comments
about the last six months and the Special election. Certain Council Members spoke
about the need to compromise and to have an open mind. Mayor Foust explained that
the original goal was to bring the various interest groups together and then have a
community process that feeds right into the General Plan. One Council Member would
like the community to focus on the whole area of the city and not just focus on the
Cargill site because the General Plan consultants should have a broader scope.
One Council Member saw value in getting in touch with the stakeholders and possibly
assess what the choices are, but similarly understanding the implications and
repercussions. One Council Member would like to see only Redwood City community
involved. He believes the people of Redwood City have spoken. Vice Mayor Howard
would like to bring the groups together and challenge them to work with the Council.
There was Council consensus to pursue the option of a dialogue between the
various interest groups. Council acquiesced that the goal is to empower the
community as well as the Council to chart their path without empowering certain
stakeholders that are set on their ways or might be unable to compromise.
Motion carried unanimously by roll call vote.
B. Pilot Street Cleaning Program Progress Report.
Recommendation:
InformationalOnly. (701)
Marilyn Harang, Public Works Superintendent, provided additional information than
what was on the report (presentation on file). Council was appreciative of the report.
8. PUBLIC HEARING
A. Approval of Landscape Irrigation Water Rates.
Recommendation:
JOINT CITY COUNCIL AND REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY BOARD MEETING DECEMBER 8, 2008
MINUTES PAGE 4
MINUTE BOOK NO. 62
Page No. 273
